Thermal Commodity Engineer

We are looking for a talented Thermal Commodity Engineer to join our team specialising in the design and delivery of battery system solutions to new customers for our New Power Business Unit in Milton Keynes.

This is a hybrid role, working from our Milton Keynes site.

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Design, develop and deliver battery thermal sub systems to key gateways for a Battery Program

  • Creation of all thermal system CAD and drawings to Cummins standards in line with release schedule.

  • Delivery of key engineering process' and documents for thermal commodity (iDFMEA, DVP&R, Integrity)

  • Lead supplier design reviews to ensure commodity is manufacturable and can be delivered at cost targets.

  • Support prototype build activities while providing engineering guidance and supporting build issue resolution on your components.

  • Set appropriate design targets, champion technical requirements & take a high-level view of managing design functional constraints as well as program commitments.

  • Collaborate cross functionally on key projects with various functions including; Mechanical, Electrical, Service, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Projects.


To be a success in this role you will need;

  • Creo CAD modelling (solid/surface) & design in context expertise essential, with an appreciation of fundamental mechanical design.

  • Experience in batteries, thermal systems, powertrain cooling is required.

  • Expertise in selection of thermal components, suitable materials & joining technologies to meet system requirements.

  • Demonstrable experience to managing a project through design to production and manage several parts across multiple vehicle programmes

  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (up to 20%)

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary between £40,000 - £53,000 depending on experience
