Thisis an exciting opportunity in Huddersfield for a Thermal and Fluid Science Engineer - Technical Specialist.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • Apply specialized knowledgeof engineering principles and practices across various areas and projects in one or more of the following areas: Air handling, system integration, after treatment integration, cycle simulation and flow simulation.

  • Apply technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision.

  • Lead small projects or portions of large projects.

  • Provide technical direction for a project or a project team.

  • Participate as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.

  • Influence at department or program management level.

  • Provide input on program-related decisions.

  • Propose innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Demonstrate depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverage expertise on other projects.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.

  • Assist with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.


Skills and Experience Required:


  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required (ideally turbomachinery such as turbochargers, gas turbines and pumps). Responsibility for several components of a project or a complex component of a project would also be advantageous.

  • Experience using CFD , ideally including Fluent or CFX and CAD (Pro-E / CREO).

  • Experience of experimental testing procedures and equipment.

  • Technical project development and validation.

  • Customer / supplier-facing experience would also be advantageous.

  • Previous industrial experience including placements.

  • Awareness of industrial standards.


  • Time management, team-working, innovative thinker, ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Detailed knowledge of numerical simulation techniques, in particular Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

  • Proficient user of Computer-Aided Design including solid-body modelling.

  • Detailed knowledge of engineering design principles and practices. Experience of projects in design, development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle. Capable of creating design specification considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service. Verifies design using analysis and or functional testing, interprets results, drives decisions and assesses risk.

  • A strongly motivated mechanical engineer who would like to leverage his expertise in thermal analysis and design within a large global company

Education, Licenses, Certifications

PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent technical degree required.

Evidence of completion of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics (or similar) course modules is required.


Chartered Engineer or experience commensurate with this standard

Compensation and Benefits

Salary £41,903 - £47,694 per annum (dependent on experience)
