Placement - Customer Engineering
Cummins are now recruiting for our 2020 intake of 12 month placements in the UK, which provide a meaningful opportunity for university students to accomplish real-world projects in a professional environment.
The role ofPower Systems Customer Engineering Placement will be to follow our IQA process(engine selection, design review and installation review) for those customersusing our engines in their generating sets.
Undertake “EngineSelections” for customers, helping to pick the correct engine model and set ofoptions to tailor the engine for a specific application.
Undertake “Design Reviews” for customerapplications to verify the correct installation of the engine and interface forthe engine sub-systems (cooling, starting, fuel, mounting, air intake, etc).
Undertake “Installation Reviews” for customerapplications as the final stage of the IQA (installation qualityassurance). Use a mix of calculation,inspection and test to validate the correct installation and operation of theengine. Use electronic service tools toconfigure electronic features on the engine and optimise performance.
Support our UK and European customer base,working on customer enquiries and requests for technical support.
Develop our documentation systems to ensurethat all templates are up to date and use appropriate macros, standardparagraphs and other features.
Support any fault finding and trouble-shootingvisits with appropriate support from our experienced Application Engineers.
Provide assistance for our ApplicationEngineers and Technical Specialists and receive appropriate coaching from them.
Some level of business travel within UK and/orEurope is envisaged.
An interest in and understanding of dieselengines and/or gensets
Practical experience with electro-mechanicalmachines or automotive applications
Ability to communicate and interact effectivelywith internal teams and external customers.
Experience of technical report writing andpresentations
Language skills in Spanish, Italian or another2ndEuropean language would be beneficial

College, university, orequivalent degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related subjectrequired.
The role willprovide excellent experience for your CV and an introduction to a CustomerEngineering role in industry. A mentor will be there to guide you through yourplacement year. The following training will be provided;
Training in Corporate systems such as CARS, COLS, Concur, and familiarisation with Cummins service tool software (such as InPower, InSite, etc)
Coaching to enable the development of other business and technical skills.
